Hamilton, An American Musical was written and composed by Lin-Manual Miranda. It tells the story of a pivotal figure in American history, during a pivotal time. Alexander Hamilton, was an American military officer during the revolutionary war, he was a founding father, signing the Declaration of Independence and helping start America as its own country. The musical was first performed in 2015, highlighting Hamilton's rise from an orphan, to a military officer, the first secretary of treasury, and into his up and down personal life and eventually his fatal death in a dual with his once friend, Aaron Burr. It does this through a mix of hip-hop, R&B, and traditional musical theater styles.
